Exceed are Club Champions 2011/12 , Great Food and Paying Respect

We did it! You will get no more phone calls of harrassment, no more constant nagging, I will be silent for another 10 months ( not likely ) as a club, as The Club we did it. We won back to back Presidents Trophy, Exceed is the FASTEST CLUB.

It was going to be a hard ask as we certainly put it out there that we thought we were the best club in the state and if you are going to jaw off about how good you are you had better be able to back it up. And we did.

To the race, Katey and Tineke lead the women being first and second across the line and they inspired everyone else to go that little harder , with 8 out of the top 15 women being from Exceed were looking in good shape. Lajos lead the Men home in second and Exceed had 5 of the top 15 men across the line setting us up for a great tilt at the only title we care about being the fastest club. We maintained great results all the way through and finished to the best of our abilities.

Arriving back at the Exceed tent we were greeted with the best post race feast, all created by Exceeds own in house Catering Consultant Rob Parry. When we asked him to go overboard he did and all who were there would have enjoyed the awesome food. Rob we all thank you so much for all the hard work you did. Caramelised Banana Pancakes with maple syrup was a winner for me and I do apologies for over doing how many I could eat, burp. And the mini quiches, 5 later, oh my , loosen the belt.

Yesterday we all raced in Wade Kellys memory and he would have relished winning, I will be passing on our great result to his wife, Kate. On that note please look out for depression among clubmates, friends and family and just ask them to talk about it and get some help for an easily treatable condition.

Exceed Club racers were, Katey, Tineke, Liz, Sara, Juliana, Clair, Jasmin, Racheal, Glenda, Marie, Merredith, Lajos, Jason, Rod, David, Fillip, Alistair, Scott, Jamie, Stuart, Joe, Ross, Rod, Stew, Bruce, Reyn, Bryce, Jeremy, Andrew, John, Sean, Laco, John,Nic , Ron Thank you to all the people who came and supported the club. I hope I have not left anyone out.

On top of that I would like to thank all the Ironman athletes who raced as I know how hard it would have been, also the people who were at parties and a weddings the night before, big effort and you can now look at the trophy and know it was all worth it.

** A few mistakes were made in the final race results, they will not win us the other trophy but we will try to get them rectified.

Newsletter October 2011

A warm welcome to new and existing Exceed Triathlon Club members. We are in the best shape of our short existence and we are changing all the time. We hope this year will be a great year. It’s going to be hard to match last year’s successes, but we are going to try.

Above you will see the names of businesses that have come on board to help out the club.

Business Oxygen is a business consultancy firm.

Proteus is an engineering company.

Conquest Roofing is a metal roofing company.

CPL Legal is a personal injury law firm.

All these businesses have athletes in the club and are people you may swim, ride or run with. Exceed cannot thank these businesses enough for their help. If you need to use one of these services check them out.

Exceed is now on Facebook!! We are endeavouring to keep it up to date. Checkout Exceed Triathlon Club and join up as a friend. It’s a lot quicker than waiting for me to type up a newsletter.

Races Done

Hawaii Ironman

Exceed had 4 athletes going to Hawaii this year in Jason Nuttman (9.49), Alistair Press (10.12), Rod Marton (10.22) and Michelle Duffield (10.54). They had a great time and picked up more free stuff than you can imagine. A race report from them will be coming soon and we will publish it as soon as we can.

State Duathlon Championships

The State Duathlon Championships at Champion Lakes were on again last weekend and an Exceed member won again. Mike Kent smashed the opposition to take the overall win!! The pressure was on him to win, with others plotting to beat him. But he showed his new found class, leaving everyone on the bike then running away even further in the final run for the win. Four of the top 11 in the Open Mens Field were from Exceed. Here are the results:

Mike Kent 1st overall; Lajos Varga 4th; Brynt McSwain 8th; Ryan Baugh 11th; Dave Wrighton 3rd 40-44; Stu Denton 4th 30-34; Nic Italiano 25-29.

Liz Sinclair 1st 40-44 and 1st female age grouper; Jo Kocik 1st 25 -29; Racheal Stentiford 4th 20-24; Glenda Kirby 2nd 55-59.

Races to come

Busselton 70.3

The triathlon season is just around the corner. This week you will have to sign up for the Busselton 70.3 early!! Wednesday 19th October at 10am is the time and day. It sells out quick so if you want to do it, get in and get your spot. It is the biggest 70.3 in Australia.

Club Championships December 11th Mandurah

This is our big chance to do something special. We plan to take out the fastest club and overall trophy. Last year we won the President’s Trophy and we were 3 people short of doing the double. So we need all our members to participate in the race.

This year we are not just doing the race for Exceed. We are dedicating the race to a club member who lost his life at the end of last season. Depression took Wade Kelly’s life and although we cannot do anything for him, we can certainly help other people who are suffering in silence. It’s a huge problem that until Wade’s death I had no idea about.

Since that day club members have come forward with their own stories of depression. I do not want to go to another friend’s funeral. He loved winning races and being with winners and I know he helped out a lot of people in the club with their affairs and words of advice. Pre-race we will be taking a short time to remember him – short because he would have hated the fuss.

All Exceed members will be expected to race and the Board and I will be chasing up everyone to be a part of it – and yes all the board members will be racing. It will be a fully catered event for Exceed members and family.

Hi All,

Exceed Triathlon Club has made it through its first year and is looking forward to its second year of existence. From the outset the club was formed for athletes wanting to improve their own performances. With Exceed it’s simple, train hard and smart, test yourself and race.

Club Championships will be a big focus this year and we will be going with the purpose to win both the trophies on offer, Fastest Club ( which we won last year ) and overall Champion Club. We will be dedicating the race to Wade Kelly who lost his battle with depression and also bringing the very common problem out in the open within the club. I do not wish to bury another good friend. We are looking for all Exceed athletes to race this event.

Exceed has athletes this year going to World Championships in China, Las Vegas and Hawaii, and next year with the World Olympic and Sprint Distance Champs in New Zealand there should quite a few wanting to go there. We of course have the Triathlon WA racing season which Exceed athletes dominated in, and plan to again.

Swim training will be as normal in the morning and in the evening squads. In addition we will be starting a higher end evening swim squad for athletes who need that little bit more.

Bike sessions on Tuesday and Thursday will now be more open and available to more athletes. These sessions are known to be high end and the athletes who train them know the commitment needed. Saturday bike rides are out of the North Side Car Park at the Narrows on Mounts Bay rd. Theses bikes rides are open to all and will have a variety of rides going out depending on our racing schedule and the athletes ability.

Run sessions are being conducted by Brad Hoskins on Tuesday night at the Challenge track and Raf Baugh on Thursday at Yokine Reserve. These are interval sessions.

Overall we have a great training program and Exceeds on the day race tent is the envy of all other clubs.

We look forward to training and racing with you in the 2011/12 season.

EXCEED END OF SEASON NEWSLETTER

Presentation and Meltdown

On Saturday 21st May we held the most prestigious triathlon awards in WA – the Exceed Triathlon Club Awards.

The award night was held at the Oxford Hotel. Although there was a mix up with the room it was still a great night. No small portion of cheap food for Exceed athletes, as we all enjoyed one of the biggest and best dinners any award night has ever had. Brad Hoskings was seen having 3rds and the very lean Katey Gibb was noted having 3 desserts – that is what the off season is about.

After the awards Kenty led the charge to the night clubs in Leederville. Lajos was last seen at 3.30 ish in the morning on the dance floor asking for money for a kebab for his long walk home (unconfirmed). A few people were known to be licking their wounds from the night on the tiles.

Awards

Rod Marton won the Clubman Award. This was presented to Rod for his work around the races, especially his ice bath at the City of Perth race. James and I gave the idea no credit at all but, come the end of the race in near 40 degree temperatures, it was the only thing that anyone wanted.

Lajos Varga won the Fastest Male and Michelle Duffield won the Fastest Female.

Katey Gibb won the First Annual Exceed Triathlete of the Year, achieving the highest number of points in the following: the top seven races; extra points for high end and international races; and races in the open and age group divisions. Only two (2) points separated the top four (4) athletes.

Ironman Houston and Lanzarote

Rod Marton went to Houston Ironman and had a race to remember and forget. After a rough (read lots of people in a small space) swim he exited transition to find that his wheel was rubbing on his brake. After stopping twice he then got down to business on the bike and set the fastest bike time in his age group of 4hrs 51 mins. He exited T2 with a 10 minute lead!! However 10 km down the road on the run the wheels fell off – he was a walking, shuffling mess. He managed a 4.04 run and ended with a 10 hrs 10 min finish. For 12 hours he thought he had blown it, with all those people in his age group passing him by. But in reality only 6 did and so he finished 7th and picked up a spot to Kona. He sent a picture of himself picking up his slot wearing his Exceed t shirt. We are the international club !!

John Cooke went to Lanzarote Ironman and found out what hills were. After exiting with his best swim time by 6 mins he got on the bike where he spent the next 7.30 hours battling winds, hills, heat and cold. He then struggled though the run and finished with a 13 hour Ironman. In his words 2 years ago he would not have finished the race. It was the hardest race he has done.

Raf Baugh – Not the forgotten Duathlete

Just a mention of one of our athletes or should I say duathlete Raf Baugh. Raf has been travelling the world racing duathlons in Europe. He does get slightly forgotten even by the Australian Triathlon Management and should be treated better. But although duathlon does not have the highest profile, the racing is no less intense. He has recently returned home after a win in the Basque region of Spain and 3rd place in the European Championships. He will be heading back overseas to compete in more duathlons, finishing with racing the World Championship in Spain for Australia in the Elite Division, later in the year. He is a great bloke and a world class duathlete, and all of us at Exceed TC wish him the best.

Hawaii Ironman World Championships Bound

Michelle Duffield, Alistair Press, Jason Nuttman and Rod Marton have qualified for Hawaii Ironman. They will be competing on the big island come October. They will have to endure long rides, cold mornings, the darkness and loneliness all to go to Kona and race with the legends. Well done and I hope after Ironman Korea we will have more going with these four (4).

Beijing Olympic and Sprint World Championships Bound

Elizabeth Sinclair, James Brodie and Ross Pedlow are heading to the ITU World Championships in China. Liz is racing the Sprint while James and Ross are racing the Olympic Distance – to be held over the Beijing Olympic Triathlon course. These three (3) will also have to combat the same elements of weather in training, but while the Kona crew will battle heat for their race we may be battling smog.

Soap Box

After what seemed like an impossible task Exceed Triathlon Club is off the ground, and we will be back again next year, which was goal number one. Goal number two was to win the Fastest Club at Club Championships Mandurah and we were only 4 people away from wining both titles. Goal number three was to help Exceed athletes on targeted races with pre and post race refreshments and encouragement. The fourth goal was to create a club were athletes could come and race and feel free to race to the best of their abilities in a culture that encouraged this. I feel we achieved all these goals well.

I would personally like to thank the Exceed Board of James Brodie, Paul Mckeirnan and Ben Talbot for being great board members and coming up with and knocking down some of the most hair brained ideas a triathlon club has ever heard of. Without these three people Exceed would not be here.

I would like to thank all the Exceed Members and families for putting up with the crazy sport of Triathlon. We do it because we love it, because we get it and because it is fun. I look forward to seeing you all again next year when we raise the bar even higher.

Finally, I would like to thank my wife Cherie and son Joshua for allowing me to indulge my passion for Triathlon.

Enjoy the break and see you next season.

Exceed Newsletter Post Busselton 70.3

Hillarys Tri 10th April

After the previous newsletter you would have known we were denied the chance to have a BBQ by the race organisers, so in true Exceed fashion we set about having better catering for the event than anyone else. Jesters Pies came on board to sponsor Exceed’s food for the day and it was fantastic. We almost had too much food, but thanks to the big eaters we were fine. It was a windy day at Hillarys and it was a little funny having Stadium’s tent fall down and break while our members were eating lovely warm fresh food. We eventually felt sorry for them and gave some of their athletes some food (Exceed helps others).

On the race front Exceed had another great day and being that it was the final race of the series we had people winning and placing in both the race and the series.

Tri Events Series Results

25-29 Males Justin Lang 2nd Jason Rhine 3rd

30-34 Males Jason Nuttman 3rd

35- 39 Females Julia Austin – Olsen 3rd

40 -44 Females Liz Sinclair 1st

40- 44 Males Alistair Press 2nd

50 -54 Females Di Scott 1st Merredith Douglas 3rd

55-59 Females Glenda Kirkby 1st

55 – 59 Males John Hawkins 2nd

Open Females Katey Gibb 2nd

Open Males Brynt McSwain 3rd

T- Shirts and Hoodies

Thanks to Wade Kelly for organising the T-Shirts and Hoodies. We have sold out except for 2 small ladies t-shirts. They look great and other athletes wishing they were in a kit like ours gave many a sullen look.

Busselton 70.3

Exceed Athletes destroyed the Busselton 70.3 race with so many people on the podium and doing personal bests it is hard to keep up. Exceed almost had someone on the podium from 55-59 down to 18-24 and then took out 4 of the 6 podium places in the open section.

Lajos Varga brought the race to life being the fastest Western Australian and coming from the open field after being denied pro status. Brynt McSwain took 3rd place in the Open category. Michelle Duffield won the open women’s with Katy Gibb taking 3rd.

Brad Hoskings on his retirement race blew the run apart to win 40-44 with Alistair Press 3rd. Mike Kent was 2nd in the 25-29 as was Jason (new Dad) Nuttman in 30- 34. Simon Biddle showed the class that we all had seen on the training track to go sub 4.30. Jason Rhine had a day to forget but at 4.30 and change I would have liked a day like that. The list is endless but special mention should go to Clair Rockcliff who was denied 2nd place in the 18 – 24 age group due to a computer hitch. The chance to stand up on stage was denied to her and being she was at Club Champs it is twice she has been denied.

Exceed also had people on the podium in the teams events in each category.

As a Club we were easily the best Club in the race and as a supporter the best club supporting. Thanks to Rod for his music equipment and to Bruce, Mal and Liz for having to put up with Ross on the microphone for 4 hours.

Hillarys Sprint 20th February

A surprisingly cool morning met the athletes at Hillarys – a pleasant change from the heat that has been unrelenting on us all. A great swim, bike and run course at Hillarys makes going there a treat and good viewing, with spectators being able to see the full swim, 3 laps of the bike and out and back on the run. In the swim stingers met the athletes, which is always unwanted. But after the initial few stings it was head down and go as fast as you can, then a breeze on the bike and as I said a cooler run.

Results are below

Perth Criterium Series

Exceed Athletes Justin Lang, Mike Kent and Ross Pedlow joined with Chris Fisher to represent Wembley Cycles in the Perth Criterium Series. It is a 4 race cycle series held over 4 days around the streets of Northbridge, Victoria Park, Leederville and Fremantle. Justin Lang faired the best with a 3rd place at Victoria Park. He also picked up a few dollars for winning a couple of intermediate sprints. The 4 riders would like to thank all the triathletes who came out to support us, as it was hot in weather and fast in racing.

Rottnest Channel Swim

Jasmin Dillon joined an exclusive and elite list of solo swimmers by completing the Rottnest Channel Swim. A couple of minutes after 7 hours Jaz emerge from the water to complete the swim. Her number plates are ordered so expect to see them driving around Perth soon. Rod Marton was her boat skipper and while he was not swimming he deserves to be thanked for the thankless task. Thanks Rod. J

Justin Lang and Jade Turner competed in a duo and although tough completed the swim in just under 6 hours.

Luke Neuwert (swim coach) Jamie Janiki, Michelle Duffield all completed the swim in a team of 4.

This is one of the best sporting events in Australia, so if you get the chance to do it next year, take it up.

Albany Olympic Distance

A small but happy crew went down to Albany and enjoyed a good race, including a new course for the bike. Katey Gibb, who was a shoe in to win the Open women’s, came down with a stomach bug and could not start. John Hawkins who came 2nd in his age group 55-59 decided to check out the asphalt on a roundabout by lying on it. On the up side Brynt Mcswain is on the come back and is rounding the corner to some good form. Joe, Simon, Di and Merredith are getting better each race and special mention to Jeremy for finishing his first Olympic distance since a bad bike crash and Ron in doing his first Olympic distance race.

New Zealand Ironman

March 6th was the New Zealand Ironman and two (2) Exceed Athletes crossed the channel to race it. Jason Nuttman finished in 7th in the 35-39 age group with a time of 9.23 and got a slot for Hawaii, running a 3.13 marathon – freak!!

Tania Stone came in 12 hours and 5 mins, coming 8th in her age group 45 – 49. The conditions were typically New Zealand, it rained all day and was cold. I know Tania does not like the cold at all and would have been happier with plus 30 temperatures.

Jason joins Alistair and Michelle for the winter training sessions in preparation for Hawaii.

Abu Dhabi International Triathlon

Alistair Press, Jamie Cartwright and Aaron Robertson (N/C) went to Abu Dhabi to do the International Triathlon of a different distance – 1.5 km swim 100km bike and 10 km run. Humidity was high and Jamie’s hair played up but their results were great.

Aaron 2nd and Alistair 4th in the 40 -44 age group and Jamie 9th in the 35-39 age group. Out of 540 competitors they were 18th , 23rd and 36th . A great result!!

Jamie then led them to the pub which they stayed in till closing time (got kicked out about 2 am). A great trip was had by all.

Soap box

As I write this newsletter I look forward to being at Hillarys Triathlon on the 10th April. Exceed was planning to have bacon and egg rolls after the race, given the expected cooler conditions, but have been informed by Trievents that we will not be allowed a BBQ to cook them on. They are allowing North Coast to have a BBQ and they will be trying to charge Exceed Members and the public $5 for a Bacon and Egg roll. Exceed would have supplied them for free. We have emailed and spoken on the phone with Trievents and they have told us they will not allow Exceed, Fremantle, Stadium or any other Club to have a BBQ at the race, with the exception of North Coast. Initially we were told this was because of City of Joondalup regulations, however the City actually promotes BBQs – we could have gone into a prize pool to win a new BBQ if we held one in the park. Reference was also made to it being a safety issue; however advice from a high level safety officer in our club revealed this to be a dubious proposition.

Obviously this is not good, but Exceed will be there providing our members with food and drinks after the race, as well as a friendly and supportive place to hang out.

This is a great race and works well for the build to Busselton Half so we hope to see you all there and enjoying the race and post race at the Exceed tent.

Exceed debuts another innovation.

Sweltering hot conditions met athletes at City of Perth State Olympic distance Championships on January 30, 2011.

Yet again the race was hot and yet again the organisers mixed up the race to make more debacles than the Gillard government.

The swim was long, the ride was long and marred by some poor rules, and the run had drinks stations only serving hot water.

The powers to be decided on an unworkable Green Zone that caused more dramas to everyone. The zone was poorly marked, and was clearly wide enough for all athletes except for maybe some tricycle riders to pass and negotiate slower riders. How is an Exceed member (40km+ Rider) be expected to slow down for a person wearing runners riding a hybrid struggling to do 15kph. And then allow other non Exceed club members to catch up and hang on.

People were penalised and sent to the box for drafting in the green, and for passing there was plenty of DQ’s. Luckily, some of those peoples got their race reinstated.

Now for the run…How in this day and age running an event like this in Perth at this time of year can you start the event late to accommodate a non-championship event. The run leg was on the hot tar of Riverside Dve, and only handing out hot water, because the powers to be decided they would save money or time and have no ice available. Terrible, unsafe and Un-Australian.

Exceed Tri Club, will look to work with the organisers to help address some of our issues, and if there is no changes made, then we will be looking to reconsider our participation at this event. Exceed had 5% of the field and managed to pick up 17% of the trophies on offer. We have a voice!

Innovation, and nomination for support idea of the year, goes to Rocket Rod Marton, with his ice bath. There were many doubters as to how effective a small paddle pool with ice water in it would be (We Can Afford Ice). But as many people will agree it was absolute gold, especially when coupled with the sponges. Athletes finished a long hard hot race, and then found there way to the oasis that was the exceed tent, where they were met by a smiling Rocket Rod in full war paint and an ice cold bath to soak there feet. Ice cold drinks, ice poles, muffins (Thanks Merredeth & Glenda) and lollies where available.

If you would like to come and help out, please do not hesitate we can always use an extra hand setting up packing up, and supporting the number one club in the west.

Rockingham State Sprint Championships

After having a successful day at Mandurah the week before Exceed was looking at taking on the State Sprint Championships and dominating them as well. It was great weather with a bit of wind for the bike to mix it up. The pancake flat course made for some nice groups to form but obviously Exceed athletes rode past those groups. The Exceed tent was up again and with thanks to James and Lajos for the muffins which were fantastic. We have had a great response so far about the tent and we at the club hope you are all enjoying it. The next race it will be up at is the City of Perth Triathlon, were Merredith claims her muffins will be better than the boys.

Race Results

Open Mens: Brynt McSwain 4th Mike Kent 5th Lajos Varga 9th

Mens 24-29: Jason Rhine 1st Justin Lang 4th Stu Denton 7th

Mens 30 – 34 : Jason Nuttman 1st Jamie Janiki 9th Simon Biddle 11th Nat Williams 14th James Brodie 19th

Mens 35- 39: Stew Phillis 5th

Mens 40 – 44: Brad Hoskins 2nd Alistair Press 3rd Ross Pedlow 5th Mike Preist 6th Bruce Matthew 9th Rod Atkinson 17th

Mens 55 – 59 : John Hawkins 4th

Open Womens: Tineke Hancy 3rd Katey Gibb 4th Michelle Duffield 8th

Womens 25-29: Katy Duffield 2nd Jo Kocik 9th

Womens 35-30: Juliana Austin Olsen 3rd

Womens 40 -44; Liz Sinclair 1st

Womens 45-49: Helen Vagnoni 5th

Womens 50 – 54: Di Scott 2nd Merredith Douglas 6th

Womens 55-59: Glenda Kirby 2nd

Hope I did not miss anyone.

*Special note the President may need glasses as he almost took out 30 – 34 Age group winner Jason Nuttman in a display of blindness on the bike course. Luckily Jason’s bike skills were up to the task and he went on to win.

Also James evened the score with Rod so it will go to City of Perth Triathlon to settle bragging rights.

Hillarys Aquathon

Friday night, 7th January provided the venue for the State Aquathon Champs. Wind swept and rough seas made the race referee change the course to suit the little wiper snapper juniors with 2 x 250 metre swims broken with a run up the sand then a run around the footpaths then do it twice. Always a fun event and a good little training session to do after too much Christmas food and New Year wine.

The result for Exceed athletes as I have it are as follows

Katey Gibb 6th and Tineke Hancey 7th Overall Womens

Lajos Varga 5th Overall Mens

Liz Sinclair 1st 40 -44 Womens

Merredith Douglas 3rd 50- 54 Womens

Jason Rhine 1st Justin Lang 2nd 25 -29 Mens

Jason Nuttman 2nd 30- 34 Mens

John Hawkins 3rd 55-59 Mens

Next race is at Champion Lakes on Saturday 15th January

City of Perth Olympic Distance and State Championships is on Sunday 30th.

Here the Exceed tent will be up and supplying food and drinks to fast , hungry and tired athletes. Merredith believes she will beat the boys efforts for muffin supremacy.

Exceed Athletes Blitz Busselton Ironman

The Busselton Ironman has been a great success and the Exceed athletes did great out there. Michelle Duffield, Alistair Press and Todd Israel are heading to Kona with Brad Hosking declining his spot.

It was raced under great conditions and for once, cool for most of the day. One of the highlights was to see 3 Exceed girls take out 3 of the 4 top positions in the 25-29 age group.

Below is a list of all the athletes that train with the Exceed Triathlon Club.

There are too many stories after an Ironman so please ask the athletes how they went; they are itching to tell you their story

Men

18-24 Jo Cleasby 2nd 9.09 PB

35–39 Todd Israel 3rd 8.50, 12th Overall, Hawaii Spot

40- 44 Brad Hosking 1st 8.57, 2.58 Marathon 2nd fastest age group run

Alistair Press 11th 9.35, 1hr PB, Hawaii spot

45-49 Shaun Edwards 11.11 fastest race in 6 years

John Cooke 11.37, 30 mins PB

Female

25-29 Michelle Duffield 1st, 10.00, 7th female overall, Hawaii Spot

Jasmin Dillion 2nd, 10.12, PB, 10th female overall

Kate Duffield 4th 10.27, PB, Raced with broken collarbone

45-49 Helen Vagnoni 3rd, 11.05 1st Ironman

Anna Woodhouse 12.57 PB

Exceed Triathlon Club takes Fastest Club award in controversy.

A great showing by the newest club on the block happened on the weekend at the Interclub Championships with Exceed taking out the Presidents Cup in dominating fashion, having an average point score of 118. This was 14 points clear of our nearest rivals and shows that Exceed has attracted the athletes that want to race not just stand around and talk about how good they are. We were however were ripped off at the presentation with a glitch in the computer system awarding it to Fremantle club. Most at Exceed smelled a rat and have attributed the mistake to the other club being scared of the new and upcoming club and sabotaging the results. (No proof what so ever of this happening).

We look forward to collecting the trophy and accolades at Rockingham and will be back next year to take both trophies away at Interclub Mandurah.

All had a great day.

Please note, we are owed a celebration from Mandurah for not being able to enjoy our hard won victory on the day. We will get this back at some stage.

State Sprint Championships at Rockingham on Sunday,

Exceed athletes expected to dominate.

This Weekend is the State Sprint Champs and after smoking the field at Rockingham we are expecting to see Exceed athletes dominate again. Big threats are Mike Kent after his first across the line performance at Mandurah and Lajos Varga after recovering from a foot injury in the Open. Jason Nuttman Jason Rhine and Brad Hosking are expected to dominate their age groups in the men.

In the Women Tineke Hancey, Katey Gibb and Michelle Duffield are going to be ready to go against the women in the Open. Di Scott moves up an age group and Liz Sinclair and Tania Stone are going well.

Special mention to James Brodie who has to beat Rod Atkinson in an internal club battle for supreme bragging rights.

Exceed will have its tent set up with drinks and frozen Icy Poles (bringing down a freezer) and some light food for the day. Tri events always put a lot of fruit after the event.

Swim Sessions For Christmas Period

Due to pool closures over the Christmas Period swim squad will be as follows,

Christmas Eve 24th December, Morning Only 12 days of Christmas and followed by coffee.

Christmas Monday 27th, Public Holiday, No swimming

Wednesday 29th Normal squad, morning and night.

New Years Eve Friday 31st, Morning squad only

New Years Day Holiday Monday 3rd January 2011, Cottesloe Ocean swim

Wednesday 5th return to Normal

Conquest Roofing has come on board as a club sponsor

Exceed Triathlon Club would like to thank Conquest roofing for helping the club out with sponsorship. While we have been setting up the club, which has proved a lot harder than first thought Conquest Roofing came to us to lend a helping hand. They specialise in metal roofing to new houses and the occasional re roofing job.

Bunbury Triathlon has been run and won. 19 November 2010.

A small but powerful group of athletes headed down to Bunbury for the first big race of the season, Bunbury Olympic and Sprint Triathlon. What they encountered was flat calm water conditions and a slightly shortened swim, wet roads and a honest run, all under a cooler than usual conditions. The Open Men was won by James Lewin with Exceed Athlete Brynt Mcswain coming in 7th and the open Womens won by Kate Bevaliaqua with Exceed Athletes Tineke Hancey 4th Michelle Duffield 5th and Katey Gibb 9th.

The Age groupers did well with Jason Nuttman having the 2nd fastest age group split overall and winning the 30 -34 age group with Brad Krokosz coming out of retirement to race and finish 9th. In the 25 -29 Mens Stu Denton finished 6th and Justin Lang 9th and I know they are only warming up and will soon be taking the podium spots.

In the Sprint Triathlon Glenda Kirby was 3rd and in the 50 -54 and is eyeing 2nd place already and Rob Perks was 7th in the 30- 34. After getting a lift down at 4.30 in the morning and then riding a semi flat tyre it is a great result and shows the spirit of the Exceed Club athletes.

Tour of Margaret River (Cycle Race)

Six Exceed Athletes took part in the Inaugural Tour of Margaret River to form one Team. It was a points race in cycling and had in it a quiz night with cycling facts on the Friday night. We woke on the Saturday and raced a 4 km Prologue which gained points and seemed to be the hardest part of the weekend (Exceed equal 1st). Then it was a short road race with sprint points, then in the afternoon a Team Time Trial. This was were the Exceed Triathletes showed their class by winning 45 secs over 18 km. The Next day was a 50km road race with 4 x KOM points and while the Exceed Team won the points for the best team we did not win the overall day or event. It was taken out by the a Busselton Team with the Exceed Team coming in 3rd. It was a great result and we are already planning our return trip and victory. The riders were Ross Pedlow, Road Marton, Rod Atkinson, Julia Austin-Olsen, Nat Williams and Paul Mckeirnan. A special mention should be made of Paul’s efforts as he had a wedding the night before and everyone knows Paul’s ability to party. He fronted up (a bit dusty)and after the first prologue became the strongest rider.

Late inclusion

Left Bank Triathlon was on today November 28th 2010.

Left bank Triathlon was on today and the competitors were greeted with a strong easterly making the bike important and giving the cyclist a chance. The short swim was with the tide and if you were out wide enough you did no swimming at all, just drifted. Then on to the bike with a hill and head winds making it one of the few races in Perth that most people were not able to draft that well. Then followed with the run up the hill to the tennis courts and after 2 laps it was over. Exceed Athletes did well taking home their fair share of medals. In the women’s Jo Kocik was 3rd in the 20 29 age group and Michelle Neil was 7th in 30 -39 age group. And in the Men’s Mike Kent 1st 20 -29 age group and fastest time overall. Jamie Janicki 2nd 30-39 age group, Ross Pedlow 1st 40- 49 age group and Jo Bontempo 11th 40 -49 age group. A great morning and a fun race to do and watch.

Last note, Good Luck to all the Exceed Athletes doing Ironman Busselton next weekend. Hope you get smooth seas, fast roads and easy runs.
